SCHOOL CLOSING/EARLY DISMISSAL FOR STORMY WEATHER
The Board of Education, television stations, or Police Headquarters MUST NOT BE CALLED for information regarding school closings. These telephone lines must be kept clear for emergencies. THANK YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION.
Parent Notification System
The Parent Notification System will not be the primary system of distributing information. In order to notify the parents through the notification system effectively, several hours are needed to complete all the telephone calls. The most effective notification for school closings is Channel 12 – NJ News Network and the district web site.
Emergency/Unexpected Early School Dismissal
An early dismissal will be implemented in the event weather conditions deteriorate after students are in school. The following school closing schedule will be followed with an announcement of the closings made both by a school telephone chain where possible, and posting on the district web site www.clifton.k12.nj.us beginning at as soon as the early closing is known. Parents / Guardians should check this site if there is any indication that weather conditions may result in an early school dismissal. See chart for emergency early dismissal schedule.

Parents who cannot be at home are to be instructed to make arrangements with a neighbor, or other responsible adult, to receive and care for their children in the event of an early dismissal. Children are to be instructed by their parents of the procedure they are to follow in this eventuality. Parent-operated phone chains in place for school closing or days of delayed openings are to be used to advise parents of an early dismissal. Principals are to be informed by the calling party of all cases when parent contact cannot be made.
Students are to be instructed to proceed immediately to their homes or other pre-arranged destination agreed upon with parents who may find that they cannot be at home at the time of early dismissal. Bus students will be retained in school and supervised by staff members until such time as transportation can be provided.
In the event that weather conditions are extremely severe at the time of the dismissal, all students will be retained until there is a cessation of hazardous weather conditions.
