Special Olympics Winter Games
Congratulations to the Woodrow Wilson Jr. Mustangs Special Olympics Snowshoeing Team!! Last week on February 6th and 7th they competed against snowshoers from all over the State of New Jersey and each member of our team medaled! Michael Miller won a gold medal in both the 100 meter and 200 meter races; Jayson Hinton won silver medals in both the 100 meter and 200 meter races; Michael Shimabukuro won a silver medal in the 200 meter race. A special shout out to Alexxa Petti from Clifton High School who improved over her performance last year and won a gold medal in the womens 100 meter race and a silver in the women's 200 meter race. Unfortunately, due to the extremely dangerous icy conditions on Tuesday, February 6th our 4x100 Unified Relay Race was cancelled and our unified relay team unable to compete. This was a wonderful experience for our athletes and their unified partners. The team participated in the Opening Ceremonies which included a torch parade on skiis; followed by the annual Winter Dance. Once again, I am extremely proud of these athletes and I appreciate the continued support for our program.
