Congratulations Stan Lembryk, Big North Soccer Coach of the Year!
Clifton coach Stan Lembryk knows what it's like to bring the prestigious program a Passaic County Tournament championship.  He accomplished the feat as a player in 1983 and 1984, and returned to the program to coach four years ago. This season he got to see his players go through the same elation that he felt as a player. In the county final Clifton defeated Passaic, 2-1, for the program's 20th overall title. This year's title was Clifton's first since 2012 and Lembryk's first while coaching his alma mater. "This is very deep for me," he said. "I was part of the teams that won it twice as a player. Now to bring it back to the school and the community as a coach, it's a deep yearning feeling because the roots are there. My staff all played at Clifton too. It's more than just a trophy." Making it even more special was that it was with the group of freshmen that came into the school in his first season. Spearheading the 15 seniors on Clifton's roster were Michael Algieri (13 goals, 11 assists), Thomas Miazga (5 goals, 2 assists), Damian Quirino (5 goals, 4 assists), Kevin Salensky (8 goals, 8 assists), Oleg Voroshchuck (5 goals, 8 assists) and goalkeeper Jake Padula. "These guys all grew up together," Lembryk said. "I'm happy to be a part of them maturing not only as student athletes, but really great kids in the community. I'm so proud of the whole group coming through and reaching that goal." Clifton's season came to an end at the hands of eventual Group 4 champion Kearny in overtime, 2-1, in the in the North 1, Group 4 quarterfinals. Despite the state tournament loss, Clifton had a season to remember. "We came together all week and training and said that if we give maximum effort, win, lose or draw, we'll walk off the field and be ok with that," Lembryk said. "It's a tough loss. Playoffs are playoffs. We were disappointed. We came very close to beating Kearny. I think the emotions were that we did our best and Kearny was a little better than us on that day. We definitely weren't ashamed and we were proud that we did the best that we could."
Congratulations to Michael Algieri, and Thomas Miazga who were selected to play in the North /South Senior All Star game.
