Clifton High School Students Win First Place in 2023 Congressional App Challenge
The Clifton Public School District is proud to announce that four students from Clifton High School, Kennedy Sheppard, Lamarr Olive, Marlon Rodriguez, and Om Rana, have achieved the incredible feat of winning first place in the 2023 Congressional App Challenge. Their outstanding submission, titled "Teens Teach," has garnered recognition and praise from Congressman Bill Pascrell and the Congressional App Challenge community.
In a letter from Congressman Pascrell, the students were commended for their dedication to innovation and the exceptional quality of their app, "Teens Teach." The judging panel was impressed by the creativity, functionality, and overall excellence demonstrated in their work.
As the winners of the 2023 Congressional App Challenge, Kennedy, Lamarr, Marlon, and Om are entitled to several prestigious prizes and honors, including:
- Invitation to Demonstrate Your App: The team, along with their families, will be invited to the district office to meet Congressman Pascrell and provide a demonstration of their application.
- Recognition: "Teens Teach" will be displayed in the US Capitol Building for one year, featured on House.gov for one year, and showcased on CongressionalAppChallenge.us.
- Certificate of Achievement: A formal certificate acknowledging their victory will be presented to them by the office of Congressman Bill Pascrell.
- #HouseofCode: They will be invited to attend #HouseofCode at the US Capitol Building in April 2024.
- ARTS Act Copyright Waiver: The winners are entitled to have their registration fees waived if they choose to copyright their creation.
Kennedy, Lamarr, Marlon, and Om's app is a testament to their commitment to education and innovation. The app's features include Google Maps integration to help students find local libraries, custom news feeds, and social media recommendations based on students' interests, an integrated AI conversation with ChatGPT, tips for academic success, and a dictionary search to expand vocabulary.
Additionally, "Teens Teach" has initiated a scholarship fund for students at Clifton High School, providing opportunities for further education and growth.
Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Danny A. Robertozzi, expressed his pride in the students' achievements, stating, "This outstanding accomplishment by our students reflects the dedication and excellence that Clifton Public Schools instills in its students. We are immensely proud of Kennedy, Lamarr, Marlon, and Om for their innovative contributions to education through 'Teens Teach.'"
