Clifton High School Unveils New Athletic Showcase
Clifton, NJ - Clifton High School celebrated the opening of its expanded Athletic Showcase, highlighting the school’s rich tradition in sports. Led by CHS alum, History teacher, and Voice of the Mustangs John Lesler, the display represents the years-long effort to honor the memories of past athletic achievements and to inspire Clifton Mustang pride in current and future students.
The showcase, which until now consisted of two display cases, now boasts five display cases spanning across 15 sports, along with 59 artifacts and 31 photographs. The cases feature items from distinguished alums, including NFL player Dave Szott, Class of ‘86, memorabilia donated by the family of esteemed former student-athlete Keiko Tokuda, as well as four professional soccer jerseys procured by CHS soccer coach Stan Lembryk.
In his speech to current CHS student-athletes, Mr. Lesler emphasized the importance of finding history in everyday life. “History is all around you. You just have to open up your eyes,” he explained, challenging the students to learn from the past and to lead with integrity.
CHS Principal Ahmad Hamdeh and CHS teacher Mrs. Lori Lesler were recognized for providing resources, assistance, and support for the project. The event included unveiling all five display cases led by respected coaches and staff members who have shown dedication to honoring Clifton High School’s athletic legacy.
