HOSA Blood Drives at CCMS and WWMS
Middle School Staff Roll Up Their Sleeves for Blood Drives
Staff members from Christopher Columbus and Woodrow Wilson Middle Schools participated in two school-based blood drives held on May 5 and May 12. Organized by Christine Lucas, Supervisor of Nurses and the Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) club, the events were exclusive to school staff, aiming to provide critical donations for local hospitals.
In addition to supporting the community, the drives served as a learning opportunity for students in the HOSA club. Students assisted with event logistics by managing sign-ups, distributing refreshments, and guiding participants through the process.
HOSA is a student organization that prepares aspiring healthcare professionals by offering hands-on experience and training in areas such as CPR, vital signs assessment, and basic auscultation skills. Members also receive equipment to practice at home and develop their skills during club meetings under the supervision of trained advisors.
The blood drives reflected a strong commitment to practical education and community service, providing students with a real-world glimpse into the responsibilities of healthcare careers.
