Therapy Dog Intiative

Therapy Dog Initiative

Therapy dogs in schools are part of a structured, research-based intervention program that supports academic, behavioral, and mental health goals. These programs are intentionally integrated into the educational environment to promote therapeutic benefits and enhance overall health and wellness for students and staff.

    • Grounded in research and evidence-based practices

    • Purpose-driven, aligned with clearly defined goals

    • Integrated within a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) for mental health, behavior, and academics

    • Delivered in designated, controlled settings with systematic progress monitoring and data collection to assess impact and effectiveness

Therapy dog programs are adaptable and can be implemented in a variety of ways, allowing schools to tailor the intervention to meet the specific goals identified by the district

  • The primary purpose of a therapy dog program is to promote and enhance:

    • A positive school culture and climate

    • Social-emotional well-being of both students and staff

    • A sense of connection and belonging, which may lead to improved student attendance

    • Academic achievement through increased engagement and emotional support
