CHS Student Casey Wellins Earns Girl Scout Gold Award
On January 8, 2022, Casey Wellins (CHS Class 2024) earned the rank of Girl Scout Gold Award for completion of her Occupational Therapy family program at Clifton High School. The project was a collaboration between the Clifton Special Education Department and CHS Sophomore, Casey Wellins to ensure that families had resources to use at home with their children especially when school is not in session.
Casey created a take-home booklet full of 8 different activities that can be completed at home, and she was able to create hundreds of kits full of the materials needed for those activities. There were even a few other surprises like tongs for gripping, therapy putty, and fidget toys. Families were invited to a make-and-take event in November that was held at the CHS Library. Families were able to come and make suncatcher leaves and take home a kit of their own for more fun at home.
Casey’s project took over 90 hours of planning, preparation, and the creation of an extensive online donation drive. Over 150 kits and the resource guide were provided to the Special Education Department for further distribution. Casey was very excited to be able to help young students of the Clifton community and plans to pursue Occupational Therapy as her major in college.
In addition to Girl Scouts, Casey is a member of the Girls Soccer and Lacrosse teams, the Drama Club, Key Club, MadCaps Show Choir, Heroes & Cool Kids, and participant in several school plays and musicals.
